Orbit Sample Search Free Lite Version Released for macOS
Software developer Orbit has introduced Orbit, an intelligent standalone sample manager for macOS featuring an Orbit sample search free lite version that stays free forever. The utility indexes your existing local sample folders and allows you to locate sounds using conversational natural language descriptions rather than exact filenames. You can download the installer directly from Orbit without entering payment details or creating a user account.
Natural Language Audio Search
Traditional sample browsing often stalls creative momentum when digging through poorly organized folders. Orbit indexes your local audio files on-device, translating simple descriptive prompts—such as "woody percussion" or "dark sub bass"—into relevant results from your collection. In addition to text-based matching, the software includes similarity search to find sonic alternatives based on acoustic characteristics.
Orbit Lite vs. Pro Features
Every new installation begins with an unrestricted 14-day trial of Orbit Pro. Once this trial period concludes, the app automatically transitions to Orbit Lite without charging you or locking your indexed database.
Key features included in the free tier:
- Unlimited local sample indexing
- Natural language text search
- Audio similarity search
- Scoped folder search
- Completely on-device local processing
The paid Pro tier adds session recall for DAWs like Ableton Live and Logic Pro, audio-input matching, voice control, and a dedicated VST3/AU Orbit Sampler plugin. However, the core cataloging and search engine remains fully functional in the perpetual Lite edition.
System Requirements and Availability
Orbit runs as a standalone desktop application on macOS 15 or later with Apple Silicon processors (M1/M2/M3/M4). Support for Intel Macs and Windows systems is currently in development.
